Banana and Onion in a Jam

Banana and Onion in a Jam

Banana has big dreams

When Banana overhears they’re destined for a fruit salad, they wiggle their way out of the fruit bowl and tumble into a cardboard box. Inside they meet a lonely onion.

Hidden away, Banana shares their aspirations and dreams for the future, while Onion is simply happy to have a friend.

Banana and Onion in a Jam is a picture book for ages 3–7, written to help young children and their caregivers discuss complex feelings like disappointment, anxiety, and regret.

Banana experiences a roller coaster of emotions over the duration of their shelf life. They go from firm and green to brown and mushy, and are ultimately faced with a disappointing possibility…that they might not be eaten at all.

The book ends with a recipe for Banana and Onion Jam, an original spread that’s the perfect use for an overripe banana and an aged onion as well as surprisingly tasty and kid friendly.
